Balloon flights don’t pay for themselves. We gotta sell bow ties! To support their cosmic ray ballooning program, on June 10th the students of Earth to Sky Calculus flew a payload of psychedelic blue space bow ties to the stratosphere, 29 km (91,000 feet) above Earth’s surface. After the balloon exploded, as planned, the payload parachuted back to Earth, landing in the rugged Tungsten Hills near Bishop CA.
For $79.95 you can have your own bow tie along with a unique gift card showing the neckwear floating at the top of Earth’s atmosphere. The interior of the card tells the story of the flight and confirms that this gift has been to the edge of space and back again.
